Biography
Arie Esiri is a Nigerian filmmaker and the co-director of Eyimofe (This Is My Desire), a feature film that premiered at the 2020 Berlin International Film Festival. Born in Warri and raised in Lagos, Arie began his career in photography in Paris before moving to England, where he worked in the camera departments of various projects, including Audi, Vivienne Westwood, and the BBC. He later earned a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University in New York. At Columbia, he collaborated with his twin brother, Chuko Esiri, co-directing the short film Goose, which premiered at the 2017 LA Film Festival, and producing Besida, an official selection at the 2018 Berlin Film Festival. Eyimofe, their first feature film, tells the story of two individuals in Lagos striving for a better life abroad, capturing the complexities of migration and aspiration. The film has been lauded for its neorealist approach and has been featured in several international film festivals. Arie divides his time between Lagos and New York and is an IFP Narrative Lab Fellow.
