Biography
Chuko Esiri is a Nigerian filmmaker, screenwriter, and director, best known for co-directing the acclaimed film Eyimofe (This Is My Desire) with his twin brother, Arie. Born in Warri, Nigeria, in 1985, Chuko initially pursued a law degree at Newcastle University in England. However, he transitioned into filmmaking, earning a Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting and Directing from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2017. His early work includes the short films Goose (2017), which premiered at the LA Film Festival, and Besida (2018), which was selected for the 68th Berlinale. Eyimofe, his feature film debut, premiered at the 70th Berlinale and has been showcased at over 17 international film festivals. The film received multiple awards, including Best Director and Best First Nigerian Feature Film at the 2021 Africa Movie Academy Awards. Chuko is also an IFP Narrative Lab Fellow and has been recognized for his contributions to African cinema. He currently divides his time between Lagos and New York, continuing to develop projects that explore the complexities of Nigerian life and identity.
