Biography
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known globally as Wizkid, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and performer born on 16 July 1990 in Surulere, Lagos. He grew up in Ojuelegba and started making music early, singing in church and forming a small group with friends before he turned twelve. His passion pushed him into the studio as a teenager, where he developed the sound that would later define his career. In 2009 he signed his first major deal and began working on the songs that introduced him to the world. His breakout single “Holla at Your Boy” turned him into one of Nigeria’s most exciting young artists and set the stage for his debut album, which cemented his rise. Wizkid’s influence expanded beyond Africa as he collaborated with top international artists and brought Afrobeats to new audiences. His smooth blend of Afrobeats, R&B, pop, and Caribbean influences helped shape the modern sound of global African music. Over the years he has become a symbol of cultural pride, consistency, and evolution, earning recognition as one of the most successful African artists of his generation.
