Biography

Brian Munene Gitahi is a Kenyan writer, producer, director, and sound designer known for his diverse contributions to film and television. A self-taught filmmaker, Munene began his career in the mid-2000s and co-founded Kibanda Pictures, under which he created award-winning short films such as My Faith (2015) and Bait (2016); the latter earned nominations at Cannes’ Short Film Corner and won Best Scriptwriter at the Riverwood Academy Awards. He gained prominence as head writer and creator of Subterranea (2024), Kenya’s first full-scale sci-fi psychological drama on Showmax—serving as its creator, lead writer, producer, and co-director alongside Likarion Wainaina
