Biography
Columbus Irosanga was a veteran Nigerian actor and academic known for his powerful performances and contributions to theatre arts. A native of Okrika in Rivers State, he combined his work as a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt with a successful acting career that left a lasting impact on Nollywood. He became widely recognized for playing priestly and native doctor roles, most memorably as Igbudu in the 2001 film Issakaba, a role that cemented his place in Nigerian film history. Over the years, Irosanga earned several prestigious awards, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, Best Actor in a Drama at the City People Entertainment Awards, Most Promising Actor at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Best of Nollywood Awards. Beyond his talent on screen, he shaped young minds as a senior lecturer in theatre arts, guiding and mentoring students who went on to pursue careers in acting and performance. His passing on February 6, 2025, marked a profound loss for both Nollywood and academia.
