Hannah McMechan

Biography

Hannah McMechan is an American screenwriter and director known for her "Sundance-esque" dramatic sensibilities and sharp comedic timing. She grew up in a rural tourist town outside Yosemite National Park before moving to Los Angeles to pursue filmmaking. During her freshman year at LMU, she met her long-time creative partner, Danya Jimenez; the two began writing together officially while studying abroad in Budapest. McMechan achieved global success as a co-writer of the 2025 Sony Pictures Animation film KPop Demon Hunters, which became the most-watched original title in Netflix history. Her work is characterized by grounded characters placed in heightened or absurd situations. Following her breakout success, she was named to Variety’s "10 Screenwriters to Watch" for 2025.
