Biography
Joachim Rønning, born 30 May 1972 in Sandefjord, Norway, is an acclaimed film director, writer, and producer. He studied at Stockholm Film School and began his career making short films and commercials, including a celebrated Budweiser Super Bowl spot. Rønning first gained major recognition with the Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated Kon‑Tiki (2012). He followed with big studio productions like Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)—his films have grossed over US $1.3 billion worldwide. Rønning continues to direct large-scale projects and resides between London and Los Angeles.
