Biography
Joachim Trier is a visionary filmmaker celebrated for his "melancholy meditations" on memory, identity, and the complexities of human relationships. A former skateboarding champion who began his career making skate videos, Trier rose to international fame with his "Oslo Trilogy": Reprise (2006), Oslo, August 31st (2011), and The Worst Person in the World (2021). In 2025, he released his sixth feature, Sentimental Value, a family drama starring Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a 19-minute standing ovation and won the Grand Prix. As of February 2026, Trier is a major contender at the Academy Awards, having secured nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.
