Biography

Kurt Schoonraad is a South African comedian and actor best known for his sharp observational humor and storytelling rooted in his Cape Town upbringing. Raised in District Six before moving to Mitchell’s Plain, his early life experiences strongly shaped the unique perspective he brings to the stage. He first gained widespread recognition as the quirky accidental tourist on the TV travel series Going Nowhere Slowly. Since then, Kurt has become a household name in South Africa’s comedy scene, appearing in television shows, game shows, and films, as well as performing stand-up locally and internationally. His style blends wit with everyday South African experiences, making his comedy both relatable and memorable. Kurt is also the founder of the Cape Town Comedy Club, located at the V&A Waterfront, which has grown into one of the country’s premier venues for live comedy. His film credits include Skeem, Gereza, and The Umbrella Men: Escape from Robben Island. In his latest one-man show, Funny Side Up, he brings warmth, laughter, and fresh insights into life’s everyday absurdities.
