Tom Marais is a South African cinematographer (Director of Photography) with over two decades of experience in film and television. He is known for his strong visual storytelling style and his ability to craft distinct cinematic looks across different genres. His work spans feature films, series, documentaries, and commercials, with more than 20 feature films and numerous TV productions to his credit. He gained international attention for his cinematography on Hunter Killer (2018), alongside other notable credits such as Reyka, iNumber Number: Jozi Gold, Dam, Professionals, and Semi-Soeter. Marais is recognized for his collaborative approach, often working closely with directors to shape the visual tone of each project. Based in Johannesburg, he continues to be an active figure in both South African and international productions, contributing to the growing visibility of African cinematography on global platforms.
