Marc Scott Ceccarelli is an American animator, writer, and producer who serves as one of the current showrunners of the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. Having taken the reins alongside Vincent Waller in 2015, Ceccarelli is credited with shepherding the property into its multi-series "universe" era, overseeing the flagship show as well as its spinoffs. In 2026, Ceccarelli is celebrating the theatrical success of "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants". Released in December 2025 and dominating the family box office into early 2026, the film features a Story By credit for Ceccarelli. He was instrumental in developing the film's "ghost pirate" narrative, which sees SpongeBob journeying into the Underworld with the Flying Dutchman (Mark Hamill). He also served as an Executive Producer on the project, ensuring the film's tone aligned with the series' surrealist roots. Ceccarelli's influence extends to the franchise's streaming expansion. He is the co-developer and executive producer of the prequel series "Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years" and the surreal talk-show spinoff "The Patrick Star Show". In 2025, he also executive produced the Netflix animated feature "Plankton: The Movie", which focused on the series' pint-sized villain. A veteran of the industry, Ceccarelli began his tenure on SpongeBob as a writer and storyboard director in 2011. His work has earned him a Daytime Emmy Award and a British Academy Children's Award.
