Biography

Max Porter is one of the most inventive voices in contemporary British literature, known for "polyphonic" writing that blurs the lines between prose, poetry, and drama. Before becoming a full-time writer, he was a celebrated bookseller and the Editorial Director at Granta Books, where he published high-profile titles like the Booker-winning The Luminaries. His literary debut, Grief Is the Thing with Feathers (2015), was a global sensation, later adapted for the stage by Enda Walsh and starring Cillian Murphy. This sparked a deep creative partnership with Murphy, leading to the short film All of This Unreal Time and their 2025/2026 feature film collaboration. In February 2026, Porter is a major presence on the awards circuit following the success of Steve, which he adapted from his own 2023 novella, Shy.
