Biography

Tim Mielants is a "great observer" of cinema, known for his socially conscious narratives and a directorial style often compared to Ken Loach. The son of renowned mathematician Dr. Wim Mielants, Tim began his career in Belgian television before gaining international attention for directing the entirety of Peaky Blinders Series 3. It was on this set that he formed a deep creative bond with Cillian Murphy, leading to a series of high-profile collaborations. In 2024 and 2025, Mielants solidified his status as a premier director of "intense, quiet drama." He helmed the critically acclaimed Small Things Like These (2024), which swept the 2025 Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs), winning Best Film. He followed this success with Steve (2025), a reimagining of Max Porter’s novella Shy. As of February 2026, Mielants is a staple of the European and British awards circuit, with Steve currently contending for Best British Film at the BAFTAs.
