Biography

Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, was born on July 6, 1961, in Aladja, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. He attended Midwest College and Anglican Grammar School in Warri before proceeding to the University of Benin, where he earned a degree in Theatre Arts in 1983. In 2004, he returned to school and obtained a law degree from the University of Lagos. RMD began his career as a journalist, writing for Concord and The Guardian before transitioning into acting. He gained prominence in the late 1980s with the TV soap opera Ripples and went on to become one of Nigeria’s most respected actors. He starred in several critically acclaimed movies, including Out of Bounds, Diamond Ring, The Wedding Party, King of Boys: The Return of the King, and Shanty Town. Beyond acting, he ventured into politics and served as the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State from 2009 to 2015. Over the years, he has received numerous awards, including the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards. RMD was first married to journalist May Ellen-Ezekiel (MEE), who passed away in 1996. He later married Jumobi Adegbesan, a former TV presenter, and they have children together. Known for his charisma and elegance, RMD remains a Nollywood icon, a motivational speaker, and a mentor to aspiring actors.
