Biography

Jim Jefferies (born Geoff James Nugent, February 1977, Sydney, Australia) is a stand-up comedian, actor, and writer known for his blunt, honest humour and sharp takes on politics, society, and belief systems. After studying musical theatre and classical music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, he left before graduating and turned to comedy. Early in his career he toured in Australia and the UK, finding global attention with performances at festivals like Edinburgh Fringe, Just for Laughs and Glastonbury. A milestone came in 2009 with his HBO special I Swear to God. He created and starred in Legit, an FX sitcom praised for its realistic portrayal of disabled characters. From 2017 to 2019 he hosted The Jim Jefferies Show on Comedy Central, a show mixing satire, interviews, and field pieces. In 2023 he began hosting The 1% Club. He is also known for comedy specials like Bare, Freedumb, Intolerant, and High & Dry. Jefferies lives in the United States, is a dual Australian-American citizen, married with children, and has spoken openly about being diagnosed with autism later in life.
