SURVIVING BIAFRA | JUNE 1 | BBC IPLAYER AND YOUTUBE
Directed by Grammy Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Meji Alabi, this 75-minute BBC World Service documentary revisits the Nigerian Civil War through eyewitness accounts and previously unseen frontline archive footage. At its centre is Alabi's own grandfather, a former army commando, whose story becomes the thread that ties together accounts from soldiers and civilians on both sides of the conflict. With most survivors now in their 70s and 80s, this documentary is a race against time, a deliberate effort to preserve firsthand memory before it disappears forever. Free to watch. No excuse not to.
MIRRORS | JUNE 1 | PRIME VIDEO
First released on YouTube on February 12, 2026, Mirrors makes its streaming platform debut on Prime Video this June, and with it, a piece of history. It is the first Nollywood two-hander film to land on Prime Video, a milestone that speaks to how seriously the platform is now taking African content. If you missed it on YouTube, now is the time.

ALABOSI (THE HYPOCRITE) | JUNE 2 | YOUTUBE
Toyin Abraham returns to YouTube with her latest production. Alabosi, which translates to The Hypocrite, promises the kind of sharp, socially aware storytelling that has made her one of Nollywood's most prolific filmmakers. Details are still emerging but watch the Toyin Abraham TV channel on June 2.

BLOOD SISTERS SEASON 2 | JUNE 5 | NETFLIX
Nearly four years after the first season became Netflix's first Nigerian original and one of the platform's most talked-about African productions, Blood Sisters is back. Season 2 picks up from the unresolved tensions and survival struggles that left audiences gripped, as Sarah and Kemi navigate the aftermath of their actions with the Ademola family closing in. The returning cast includes Ini Dima-Okojie, Nancy Isime, Kate Henshaw, Genoveva Umeh, Uche Jombo, Daniel Etim Effiong, and Kehinde Bankole, joined by new additions including Michelle Dede, Warri Pikin, Mike Afolarin, and Bolaji Ogunmola. He-Man returns to the big screen in this live-action adaptation of the beloved animated franchise. Set on the mythical planet Eternia, Prince Adam must wield the power of Castle Grayskull against the forces of Skeletor in a battle that will determine the fate of the universe.

DEEP WATER | JUNE 5 | CINEMA
A commercial flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters. After surviving the crash, an eclectic group of international passengers must overcome their differences and work together to escape their sinking plane before the frenzy of sharks circling the wreckage closes in. Directed by Renny Harlin, the man behind Deep Blue Sea and Die Hard 2, the film stars Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley and runs at 107 minutes. If you have ever wanted a disaster movie and a shark thriller in one sitting, this is it.

MY FATHER'S SHADOW | JUNE 5 | CINEMA
Akinola Davies Jr.'s award-winning film returns to Nigerian cinemas for a limited two-week run across Lagos, Ibadan, Akure and Benin City, riding the momentum of its AMVCA wins. The film follows a father and his two young sons navigating Lagos during the tense period surrounding the 1993 Nigerian elections, with Sope Dirisu leading a cast that includes Godwin Chiemerie Egbo and Chibuike Marvellous Egbo. If you missed it the first time, this is your chance.

DISCLOSURE DAY | JUNE 12 | CINEMA
Steven Spielberg returns to the sci-fi genre he helped define, this time with Emily Blunt as a TV meteorologist who is overcome by a mysterious extraterrestrial force during a live weather broadcast, and Josh O'Connor as an alien believer determined to expose a government conspiracy about life beyond Earth. Written by David Koepp from a story by Spielberg, with a score by John Williams and cinematography by Janusz Kaminski, this is the full Spielberg package. Early reactions are calling it his best work in years.

A pro-democracy activist disappears just ahead of a presidential nomination, only for it to emerge that he has been detained at Kalakiri, a remote island prison. THE POLYGAMIST | JUNE 12 | NETFLIX
Adapted from Sue Nyathi's 2012 bestselling novel, this 22-episode South African supernovela follows four women whose lives become entangled with Jonasi Gomora, a self-made CEO whose carefully constructed empire and personal life begin to collapse under the weight of his own choices. Led by Sdumo Mtshali and Gugu Gumede, and produced by Stained Glass Productions, the studio behind Uzalo and The Wife, Netflix is clearly betting big on this one. The cast also includes Kenneth Nkosi, Celeste Ntuli, and Sthandiwe Kgoroge.
